The Maeklong railway market |
|
| |
The MaeKlong train route is a historic railway line owing to the fact that it is the first railway route of Thailand it is 107 years old. It is a short route running between Ban Laem station in Samut Sakorn Province to Mae Klong station. It is open for service daily, with the end of the line at Mae Klong station. The end of the route before Mae Klong station cuts through the Mae Klong fresh food market, where merchants come to put their goods on sale along the edges of the train route. Each time a train approaches, the merchants must move their merchandise stalls to make way for it. When the train is gone they quickly move them back. This way of life that assimilates mutual dependence in society is treated as a main feature of the Provinces tourism because each day tourists come to admire this fresh food market. The short time it takes for a train to pass by creates a memorable impression on those who chance to see it.

Bang Goong Camp |
|
| |
Originally Camp Bang Goong was a navy camp with historical significance dating from the time of Somdet. He commissioned the navy to establish the camp that became Bang Goong by building a wall around Wat Bang Goong to situate the temple in the center of the camp in order to be a focal point of the sailors awareness and prayers. After the second loss of the capital, Camp Bang Goong was abandoned until Thaksin the Great recruited Chinese workers from Rayong, Chonburi, Ratchaburi and Kanchanaburi to maintain the base now called Camp Jin Bang Goong. In B.E. 2311 Phrajao Grung Ang came and encircled Camp Jin Bang Goong. Thaksin appointed Phra Maha Montri (Boonma) commanding general and went to help the Chinese expel and defeat the Burmese army. After that Camp Bang Goong was left vacant for 200 years until B.E. 2510, when the Ministry of Education established a boy scout camp (no longer in use) and constructed a shrine and statue to Thaksin.
